A Place to Sit

I found the cutest pair of chairs at the Chelsea Antique Mall yard sale for $25. They needed a touch of "TLC" and I was more than happy to oblige. The cushions were very easy to pop-out and recover. I found the tan suede fabric at Old Time Pottery for $4 and was able to recover both cushions with some leftover for another project. I had a can of chocolate brown spray paint on hand and used it to paint them. I bought a set of orange throw pillows at TJ Maxx for $16 to give them a splash of color and look, a comfortable (and affordable) place to sit. I am using one chair in my craft area and the other in our media room--easy and inexpensive project! Pin It

Estate Sale Fun

I love Estate Sales!!! They are an avenue into someone's past with all the antiques, glassware, and fun finds. Recently, my mom and I went to one and I found some great baskets, small Easter eggs [my son Jackson is CRAZY over eggs, strange, I know], board games, a desk and the most charming lamp. My purchases totaled $22 and the lamp was only $1.50 of that total. Originally, the lamp was gold, rusty and had a terrible shade on it but I could see beyond that and know it had great potential. I decided to give it a nice shade of red and use it in my entryway for a splash of color. The shade it currently boasts is not its permanent shade--I'm working on a refurbish--but I couldn't resist placing it in its new home so I could enjoy it and its red glory! Pin It

No Ordinary Day

We've been told that the day we got married in July 2000 was the hottest day on record for that year. I have never actually checked to see if that statistic is true but I would certainly not be surprised. It was hot! Very hot!! The church we chose was Jennings Chapel--it's a little country church on a two lane road just outside Tuscaloosa. It was filled to capacity and it seemed like the air was broken, although it was not. Ray and I decided to see each other before the ceremony and take all our pictures so we could calm our nerves and spend our time at the reception with our family and friends. Our ceremony was short and sweet, maybe about fifteen minutes which I'm sure our guests appreciated. The reception was at the Battle Friedman Home in the historic district of downtown Tuscaloosa. We were ready to dance the entire evening away until we couldn't dance anymore. Have I mentioned it was hot? And that the dancing was to be under a tent outside? Well, needless to say we didn't dance all night. We enjoyed our first dance, a dance with our parents and our wedding party and that was it for the dancing. Although it was hot, it was the most perfectly hot day of my life! Pin It

Fireworks

This 4th of July we decided to celebrate at home. We cooked on the grill, updated our screened-in-porch (pics and info to come later), played in the pool, ran around outside (without shoes, as you can see from the pics) and played with fireworks for the first time! We made a trip to the fireworks stand ready to buy up lots of fun stuff. Being a crazy mom, I dressed both boys in 4th of July colors so we'd be picture ready for documenting another "first". Of course, both boys feel asleep in the car on the way to the fireworks stand so Daddy went inside to make our selections. After a quick trip and nap, the boys were ready to see what all the fuss was about. Jackson was super excited--he wanted to hold and light them by himself. Macklin was a bit more inquisitive and cautious. He would get close but once he saw the smallest glimmer of light, he would run as fast as his little legs would carry him to get away! Pin It
